Prelude No.1 - Villa Lobos

Richard

In the late 1960's, when I started to learn the Spanish guitar - as my teacher called it - the 5 preludes by Villa Lobos were concert pieces recorded by the great English players - John Williams, Julian Bream. I have played them for a long time and , as with pieces you get very familiar with, your own bits creep in.

During this summer I went back to the sheet music and have recorded them. This first prelude is played on the Hybrid guitar my son Robert built in 2013 for his degree. It was called a hybrid guitar because it included new and unusual ideas - 24 frets, fret 15 at the neck join, richlite fingerboard, raised fingerboard - off the sound board, a central bridge on the soundboard. I could go on ( and I frequently do go on about it) - but I think you get the idea.

It is a beautiful guitar
